Kinja'd!!!

I was raised in a Chevy family and I never thought I’d say this but...

I want a Ford, I think that they have better products especially for enthusiasts.

I know the Camaro is better than the Mustang currently and the Corvette is an enthusiasts dream but the rest of the lineup is weak for us. The SS is a great car but it’s not very modern and GM doesn’t think it’s worth keeping around.

Ford on the other hand offers sport versions of its Fiesta, Focus and Fusion cars as well as sport versions of the Escape and Edge. The Mustang also trumps the Camaro in a key area, greenhouse size. I can’t see myself daily driving a new Camaro but a Mustang would be awesome.

Fords are also more cohesive in their design language. The Fusion, Focus and Mustang all look related and look great. The Malibu looks nothing like the Camaro and neither look like the Vette. Only the Cruze, Malibu and Impala look related.

I really want to like Chevy but none of their models give me the fizz even though objectively they are superior to most Fords. I find myself ogling any ST or Mustang that goes by though.

New blue Fusion sport, here I come.

How’s the SS sedan not modern? Purely on design? I think the facelift helped, and sort of agree with you if that’s the case. But that interior is pretty stellar.

The design doesn’t help but it’s the Zeta platform and the LS3. Great components and advanced when they came out but now there’s the Alpha chassis and the LT1. The SS should be a 4 door Camaro, but personally hard to swallow paying Cadillac money for last generations tech.

Everyone talks about visibility with Mustang and Camaro...

I drive a Mustang every day. The visibility isn't that great. The hood is long and in the way, the A-pillars sweep back aggressively and cutoff forward side visibility, you can't see anything over your shoulders, and straight back is just OK

A large part of the appeal. The Voodoo is ballsy, I like that in a car company. Like when BMW jaw dropped everyone with the S85 engine, ballsy

It seems to be the best in it’s class. The next cars that are similar mechanically but that have better greenhouses are from Germany and cost twice as much to match the performance.

Zeta definitely has gotten old, but the LS3 is just as good, just without the fancy direct injection (which the Coyote doesn’t have either). The LT1 definitely stole it’s thunder but I wouldn’t hesitate buying a new car that still sported the LS3.

Magnetic Ride and an available manual helped but it was too late at that point.

Don’t buy into the visibility hype. Like any new car it takes some getting used to. I have no issues when I’m driving my Camaro around. I hopped in a GT350 and drove it around a bit and couldn’t get used to it. If I had more time I could have. Weird how those cars seem to be polar opposites.

I will say that the marketing is having an influence, mainly how terrible Chevy’s is. They really do have great cars but the ads make it seem like they sell cars for morons.

exactly - I would have loved to hear that pitch. They didn’t take the “easy” way out and just Coyote-ize the 6.2 - heck no - we are are going to take the 5.0, punch it out a bit and make it rev to the freakin’ moon.

I never got the “brand loyalty” thing. Sure, if both Ford and Chevy made great cars in the segments that I am interested in, I would factor in some type of sentiment-based loyalty. But competing manufacturers never have fully overlapping product lines in the real world.

Buy the car, not the brand.

Do you drive the current gen or previous? Current gen’s visibility is pretty solid. Previous gen’s wasn’t well thought out.

Previous gen all together wasn’t well thought out...

I have good news! The most recent camaros has more headroom! I feel less claustrophobic, even though I see no real improvement to the greenhouse from last gen. I think they lowered and reorganized seating position. The ‘16 is loads better than past years. I was humping these new ponies until I drove a 16 camaro. Id rather take a RS V6 Manual Camaro over a V6/Boostang, now. The mustangs look better and seat better, but their whole experience feels too forced. The camaros now just feels like a semi-light weight, power happy sports car that’s really well sorted and is impossible to see out of.

It’s not such a big deal. Let’s be honest, most of us here would (if we had the money) own at least one of every freakin’ car on the planet and differentiate by trim level to explain why those two identical cars are actually not the same once you look past the skin.

And I know there are a few diehards out there who would never have a Ford/Chevy/Dodge, but they’ll drive a buddy’s (insert muscle car on steriods from whichever brand here) for a couple a weeks while he/she’s out of town and it shouldn’t just sit.

I’ve driven both cars at length (except not the new newest Camaro, and I’m 6'5", so take that along for the ride), and the major difference is not in visibility, though still better in the ‘Stang, but the interior ergonomics make a huge difference. The seating position is better, and in regards to the seat they allow a lot more freedom of movement which is an instant increase in usable visibility. I do love both cars, though.

Why should you be forced to pick one brand or the other? Might as well pretend every brand in the world is all one big company and just pick the best product, regardless where it came from. I never understand "Ford families" and such. I mean sure, your local dealer might give you guys good deals or something, but this is irrelevant if you buy used.

Dohc v engine. The v6 is subsidized even though it commands a lesser price. It costs more to GM to build/install a quad cam v6 in than a single underhead cam ls/lt engine. V8 lighter with less individual component count and much smaller physically -meaning the lump can be located rearward for better handling and easier maintenance As an added bonus. Component count is crucial. And 4v dohc stacks up quick. GM found the 5.3 to be more combustion and fuel efficient than the same external size 4.8. Version as well.

You don’t have to ever command over 60% throttle or over 5000rpm if you don’t want....but it’s there for you when your mind evolves. I’m much the same way when it comes to riding a fast motorcycle. The 1200 is always more relaxing than the 600.
